In case you haven't noticed, I lead a pretty simple life and don't leave the house much. As such, when I actually do something, I get a bit overexcited and take way too many photos.
18 September
I drove down to the Seattle/Tacoma Washington area for my 5K walk the next day. I left early in order to do a bit of shopping and attend a family party that evening.
I've not been to the Ikea in the area in a long time and came across this in the car park.
This is the Tacoma Dome as seen from my car as I zip by it on the highway.
My Sister-in-Law is a wonderful gardener.
Back at my hotel after visiting with the family, I checked out my book purchases of the day. One of the Reginald Hill books is actually the UK version, apparently I'm not the only American who appreciates reading them in the original English.
19th September
I arrived at Tacoma's waterfront ready for my first official 5K walk. In typical Pacific Northwest fashion it was grey and rainy. The walk was to begin at a place where a sawmill used to stand.
After getting my race number and while waiting for the race to start I took some random photos.
This is the official event photographer.
Finally the 'race' began. I took a very leisurely pace with short breaks for photo taking.
The fallen firefighter memorial was on the 'course' which was 1.5 miles out and back.
Mile one marker!!!
Mile two and after turning around, we're now walking into the sun, which came out shortly after the race began.
Yay, Canada Geese
Mile three, I'm almost finished!
I was in no way trying to beat any time records or compete with any of the other participants who were walking faster. I came in fifth to last, but there were several people who didn't walk the whole course so it was some sort of accomplishment. My time reflected my leisurely stroll.
A couple more photos of the waterfront.
Back in my car, ready to go back home.
Stopping at an outlet mall on the way home there were some little trees in the parking lot with this intriguing fruit on them. i've never seen them before.
20 September
Back home today I only took one or two photos while recovering from my busy weekend.
