On Saturday afternoon, I had a phone call from my parents to say they were thinking of taking a trip to Dyffryn Gardens and would I like to come. Dyffryn is only about 20 minutes away, but I haven't been for years and years, and it was a beautiful day, so I said absolutely.
Alas, there wasn't time to also take in the nearby Tinkinswood megalithic burial chamber, which dates to about 4000BC, but if we had, this is what we would have seen:

As it was, we just had time for a leisurely tour around the gardens of Dyffryn - which turned out to be having a promotional free entry day, so it was crowded. The estate at Dyffryn dates back centuries, but was most significantly shaped by shipping magnate John Cory in the late 19th century. The gardens are beautiful, crammed full of little nooks and crannies, although the process of restoring them to their full glory is slow and expensive. They certainly looked lovely last weekend, in the September sun!
