"The chif-chaf... is heard in the Hangar, and Long Lythe. They are usually heard about the 21 of March. These birds, no bigger than a man's thumb, fetch an echo out of the hangar at every note." Gilbert White, 1791 (Hampshire)

Heavy mist hanging low all day - and chill with it, even though we'd been promised warmth... Birds noisy again this morning. May in the hedges...
Byslantedlight, 2009 (Cambs.)

Mixed fortunes today - rain and sun and then clouds again and now I rather think rain once more... A fight to the death between Spring and Old Winter - but I've seen no hint of May in the hedges yet (hold onto your clouts, I suppose... *g*) Byslantedlight, 2010 (Cambs.)
