"Up at 5, out at 6, in calm morning, wholly glorious. Lake like a dream... Entirely Paradise of a day, cloudless and pure till 5: then East wind a little, but clearing for twilight. Did little but saunter among primroses and work on beach. John Ruskin, 1873 (Coniston Lake, Lancashire)

2009 in Norfolk )

Inland, the day was glorious - blue and Spring green, and white and brilliant yellow, and the sun set in a haze of pink, and with a rather good three-suns-really effect! Byslantedlight, 2009 (Cambs.)

We lost our internet last night - there were some doom-y looking clouds around, so I wondered if that might be why, but who knows... There was also a rather gorgeous looking sun, so I trotted up the hill to see the sunset - and it looks just like last years (a bit more red, perhaps! Okay, and there was more cloud this year. But big and round and with a cloud running through it!) Byslantedlight, 2010 (Cambs.)

"Thermometer at 60. Wind S.W. Sky-Lark, Chaffinch, Thrush, Wren and Robin singing. Horse-Chestnut, Wild-Bryar, Bramble and Sallow had spread their leaves. Black-thorn, double-flowered Peach, and Pears in full bloom; Double Jonquils, Hyacinths, Anemones, single Wall-flowers, and Auriculas in flower. In the fields, Dog-Violets, Daisies, Dandelion, Buttercups, Red-Archangel, and Shepherd's Purse. Thomas Gray, 1760, (Cambrridgeshire)

"Young elmleaves lash and lip the sprays. This has been a very beautiful day - fields about us deep green lighted underneath with wild daisies, yellower fresh green of leaves above which bathes the skirts of the elms, and their tops are touched and worded with leaf too... Blue shadows fell all up the meadow at sunset and then standing at the far Park corner my eye was struck by such a sense of green in the tufts and patches of grass, with purple shadow thrown back on the dry black mould behind them, as I do not remember ever to have been exceeded in looking at green grass." Gerard Manley Hopkins, 1874 (Surrey)

2009

The day began under thick mist - this is the view down over the village that I've posted before! But it lifted very quickly, and became the most beautiful Spring day, for all I could only watch the endless blue skies from my window at work! Took this after 6.00pm, and there was still light in the sky at gone 9.00...

Sunshine on the blossom trees when I got up, and sunshine on the tulips when I came home - another gorgeous day (though a trifle chilly in the wind...)Byslantedlight, 2010 (Cambs.)
