"No birds sing, and no insects appear during this wintry, sharp season." Gilbert White, 1770 (Hampshire)

"I rode yesterday out of the white atmosphere of Bath into the green village of Bath-Easton; and found myself by instinct at the mill, surrounded by weirs, backwaters, nets and willows, with a smell of weeds, flowing water, and flour in my nostrils. I need not say that the scene brought you [John Constable] to my mind, and produced this letter." John Fisher, 1825 (Somerset)

Finally, a bit more colour to the world! I cycled to work today, under blue skies, then to the archives past gloriously-scented blossom trees, then back to the P&R still under blue skies! And when I got home I took six-year-old on a walk to find some blossoms in our village - and we did! Much, much better! Byslantedlight, 2010 (Cambs.)
