"Lower part of the elms out and the chestnut fans rising into shape." Gerard Manley Hopkins, 1869 (Surrey)

"The blossoming fruit trees, the torch trees of Paradise, blazed with a transparent green and white lustre up the dingle in the setting sunlight. The village is in a blaze of fruit blossom." Francis Kilvert, 1872 (Radnorshire)

2009

A glorious start today, as if we would be covered in a summer's heat haze, but the skies clouded over and stayed grey then - even though it wasn't really cold. Just now there was a sudden rush from outside, and I realised that the heavens had opened upon us - and just as suddenly it seems to have stopped. Spring weather, so that we're lush and green and be-flowered! The rapeseed is yellow and smelling very sweet already, across all the fields...

2010

It looked like it might rain today, but it didn't and in the opposite way to yesterday the sun and blue skies came out when I got home... And I didn't notice this until I opened the pic to shrink it for this post - but there was a glider on tow in the top left corner!
